Barter Books is one of Britain’s largest 2nd hand bookshops and is housed within the old Victorian Railway station on the edge of Alnwick town. The engine sheds have been transformed into wide open spaces housing hundreds and hundreds of books of all ages for people of all ages. There are places to sit and enjoy flicking through the pages of something interesting or you can retreat to the station buffet for coffee and cake in the former waiting rooms.

There are open fires in the winter which really add to the experience and visitors flock here daily to spend time dipping into the pages of something old but familiar, simply watching others enjoy the offerings on its many shelves a visit to Alnwick is not complete without a few minutes of quality time spent a Barter Books. It really is worth a look!there is a small on site car park which gets very busy and there is disabled parking near the main doors.
