Our Friends

Hourglass are committed to supporting local businesses in Alnwick and beyond. Here are a few we are very happy to recommend and whom we call Friends of Hourglass.

Darryn Wade Photography

My name is Darryn Wade and I’m a self-taught, colourblind, landscape photographer, born and bred in Northumberland.

A joiner by trade, I took up photography in 2009 and was able to turn professional eight years ago. Now firmly established, I sell my work here online and in outlets throughout Northumberland.

I’ve been a keen surfer , rock climber, fell runner and walker since an early age and have always felt a deep affinity with the Northumbrian landscape as a whole. I always try to portray this connection in each photograph I take. I find equal charm in our hills, on our moors and of course our amazing coastline. My greatest difficulty is deciding where to go on the day as we have so much to choose from.

Each outing holds something unexpected, whether it’s conditions, wildlife or another perspective I hadn’t noticed before. But there is always that overwhelming Northumbrian atmosphere!

The Great British Curtain Co make made to measure curtains and blinds from a diverse range of high quality fabrics! Their extensive range of fabrics in various colours and styles enable them to provide the perfect solution for every home!

Founded by Mr Proudlock in 1979, their humble hardware store has evolved throughout the years to become an emporium of homewares, gifts, cookware & more. Dubbed an ‘Aladdin’s cave’, the flagship Alnwick store sits at the heart of the historic town as a proud symbol of independent high street shops.

Marilyn & Melrose is an Interiors & Lifestyle shop. They opened the shop in August 2012, introducing the North East to the wonders of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™, painted furniture, up-cycling and of course…. fantastic Craft Workshops.

Whilst the Town Centre shop continues to thrive in the heart of Alnwick, Turnbull’s have also become the must-visit home of Northumbrian Food with the creation of a flagship Food Hall on the edge of town, which opened in December 2019.
